Friday Memes

Book Beginni
ngs on Friday is a bookish meme sponsored by Katy at A Few More Pages. Here's what you do: Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading on your blog or in the comments section. Include the title and author so we know what you're reading. Then, if you are so moved, let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line and if you did or did not like that sentence. Link up each week at Katy's place.

Here's mine
from No Case for the Police by V. C. Clinton-Baddeley:

Suddenly the road tipped down between the pine trees. Leaving foxgloves behind, the bus had started its descent towards the village. The distant glimpses of the sea disappeared behind the shoulder of the valley. As he crossed the railway bridge--the disused line already overgrown, the sandstone cutting more than ever mysterious--Davie knew that he was home.

If he fell there was nothing mysterious about his being killed.

Given that both excerpts contain the word 'mysterious', it comes as no surprise that my initial reaction was: Ooooh, mysterious...! Lol :) x
