The Daily Telegraph 1899 List of The Best 100 Novels in the World

Rose City Reader has posted this list on her page.  Being a former English major who considers herself a Victorianist at heart, I was intrigued--and also a bit ashamed of how many I haven't read.

As Rose City says: "In 1899, The Daily Telegraph of London offered its readers a list of the “100 Best Novels in the World,” as assessed by the editor and a small committee of consultants. Although compiled at the end of the 19th Century, the list is not limited to that century. Allan Massie has a good essay comparing the 1899 list to a similar list compiled by The Daily Telegraph in 1999.

...Several are out of print or otherwise hard to find, so I am resigned to the fact that I may never finish all these books. Which isn't such a bad thing -- those Victorians sure did love their seafaring tales!"

I'm going to improvise on her system:  Those that I have read are in red.  The books on my TBR list are in  blue.  Those I have yet to find are in green
